How Fringe works

The whole point of Fringe is to support new and emerging theater. So we try to make it as easy as possible for performers to produce their shows and for audiences to see them. We take care of all of the organizational stuff that most performers hate to do (although we like it): lining up venues, generating publicity, organizing volunteers and bringing the audience.

We also pay for advertisements, posters and publicity to get audiences to the show (although we encourage you to promote your show too). We pay for the venues, techs, programs, telephone calls, stamps, paper, chair rental, light rental, opening party, closing party...lots of stuff.

We also organize the wonderful volunteers who make this whole crazy thing work.

Then you produce your show.

How to perform at the Fringe

There are lots of ways that you can get on stage at the Fringe. You can apply to perform at a Fringe-managed venue (due July 1) Or if you have a specific place in mind where you want to perform, you can line up and run your own venue, called a Bring Your Own Venue (BYOV) (due September 1).

For folks who don't want to mess with all that and just want to do their thing, the Fringe Free-For-All is our crazy circus tent in beautiful Plessy Park where all types of buskers, puppeteers, dramatists, improv folks, skit-makers, artists, hula-hoopers and uncategorizable talents take the stage. Show up, perform, play, sing, read, try new stuff...Do watcha wanna. Contact Charlie at charlie@nofringe.org to learn more.

Still too much structure? New Orleans is a city of street performers. Find a crowd anywhere you can and just do your thing.
